"Natalie Higgins is an excellent teacher with highly professional performing skills, comprehensive knowledge of music, and a wonderful personality. Her inventive style of teaching accommodates the individual horn player. She is constantly creating new and more effective ways to enhance the learning experience of each student. Studying with Natalie has helped me learn to play in a manner that is more natural, as well as find the methods of playing that work best for me. She has not only taught me how to effectively practice and develop my technique, but more importantly, she has taught me how to improve my overall musicianship. Natalie is passionate about her role as a mentor and possesses the exceptional ability to inspire her students."

“Natalie is one of the most amazing, hard working, and influential people I have ever known. She is committed to her talent and to you as her student. She helps you in ways that make you begin to believe in yourself and inspires you to work towards your goals. At the end of the lesson you see how far you’ve come and you know that you couldn’t have done it without her.”
"Natalie has been the horn clinician at our high school for the past two school years. Her work with our students has dramatically improved the musicianship and performance level of our horn section. Her professionalism and passion have inspired our students and their love of music. In her time as a clinician at our school Natalie has demonstrated the highest standards as a teacher. She is always on time and prepared to teach our groups. Her demeanor is professional and her pedagogical knowledge is extensive. She has an approachable personality that allows students to feel comfortable and safe to take musical risks during rehearsals. Her professional experience and education give her a wealth of knowledge and teaching strategies that she employs as in lessons. As a staff member she is open to collaboration and is supportive of all aspects of our music program. I truly enjoy working with Natalie and I give her my highest recommendation as a teacher and performer."

"Natalie is a truly brilliant instructor and I am so thankful for the time I spent under her teaching. Her teaching style is incredibly unique to any person I’ve received lessons from and her deep understanding of brass support, posture, and the nuts and bolts of actually playing the horn really bring her teaching to another level. She is so down-to-earth and easy to talk to and, even after my first lesson with her, I gained more skill and a higher understanding of the mechanics of the horn and your body as you play it. I appreciate (and thoroughly enjoyed!) every lesson that I had with her. A sincerely talented horn player and genuine teacher, I will never forgot what Natalie taught me."

"I found Natalie's focus on breathing, body alignment, and sound production using a blend of ideas from masters of not only the horn, but also other brass artists to be unique and essential to breaking bad habits. She has a fresh, well balanced approach to teaching which produces results."

"Natalie proved to be a responsible, organized and professional clinician. Her planning through, her classes productive, and she exhibited a very caring attitude towards young people. Natalie showed her dedication through active participation in the initial development of musical skills through rehearsals and culminating performances. In addition to her clinician experience, Natalie worked with numerous private French Horn students with great success.
Natalie is a fantastic person and over the course of her time at Chantilly High School she was able to advance our student's musical abilities to new heights. She has an excellent rapport with students she works, in virtually any classroom seeting. She is a great talent in the field of music education and would make for an exceptional music educator in any classroom or private lesson environment. I highly recommend her without reservation."

"Natalie has an excellent understanding of my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses as a French horn player. She customizes the content of the lessons to her current skill level while at the same time providing challenges to keep her advancing towards harder musical pieces. Not only has my daughter grown as a horn player, she has also gained more confidence in herself. Natalie’s passion for and love of music has been contagious; motivating her to practice and hone her craft. I have seen incredible changes in my daughter’s playing and the progress that she has made with Natalie has far exceeded my expectations. As a teacher myself I value and respect the impact that a gifted teacher can have on her pupils. Natalie has had a positive and permanent impact on my daughter’s life. Any student that is fortunate enough to experience instruction with Natalie will benefit from her incredible musical talent and will walk away a better musician."

"Our 12 year old Son, Michael, decided to take up the French Horn in Middle School. To ensure that he had a good foundation, we wanted to give him lessons. Although we had a lot of trouble finding an instructor initially, when we found Natalie we could not have been happier. Natalie was wonderful with Michael. She found very creative ways to help Michael learn the basics. She made learning the French Horn fun and interesting for Michael. On several occasions, he commented to me that his lessons with Natalie were really reinforcing his French Horn studies at school. It was truly a joy getting to know Natalie. She introduced all of us to the beauty and majesty of the French Horn. Natalie loves her craft and is extremely organized and a wonderful teacher. Not only is she incredibly talented, she is just as incredibly resourceful and somehow manages to master everything that she tackles with grace and flair. My only regret is that we didn’t hook up with her earlier; we will truly miss her exceptional instruction and friendship."

"Natalie gave my beginning French Horn player an excellent start. She taught him correct form and solid fundamentals - which was exactly what we hoped to accomplish with early lessons. Natalie's perceptive nature and encouraging teaching style had him looking forward to the lessons and practicing often. She explains concepts so well that he learned and progressed very quickly."

"Natalie Higgins worked as a member of the UCLA Outreach Program. She was an instrumental music instructor at Bret Harte Middle School from January of 2009 through June of 2011. Natalie is a talented and gifted musician, and an excellent instructor. I observed her instructing students individually and in small ensembles. Natalie's knowledge of music and her instructional technique enabled her to help establish strong fundamental skills for the students. Her approach to instruction is methodical, personable and positive. She started and consistently worked with a French Horn student, Malik Taylor, privately, and through her expertise he was able to audition for and make the California All State Band and the LAUSD Honor Band after only six months of study. He was recently selected to perform with the Los Angeles Inner-city Youth Symphony. Malik Taylor as well as all of the students she worked with enjoyed, appreciated and respected her. Natalie challenged and inspired the students to perform beyond their expectations. In addition to instruction, Ms. Higgins was a very effective and successful on-site coordinator for the other UCLA instructors.
Natalie Higgins was an invaluable asset to the instrumental music program at Bret Harte Middle School. Natalie was patient, enthusiastic and dedicated. She readily accepted, and implemented advice as needed. I learned and gained insight from her as a musician, instructor and coordinator. Her level of musicianship, instructional ability, positive interaction and commitment were integral aspects of the success that the UCLA Outreach Program experienced at UCLA during the 2009-2011 school years."
